Jim has lived on or visited Martha’s Vineyard beginning at the age of 3 months when my family rented a cottage in Gay Head (Aquinnah). My first memory is the arc of the the three white lights and one red light of the Gay Head light reflecting into my bedroom. My family built a vacation home in Lobsterville in 1956 where I spent most of my childhood summers. After graduating college and a few years in New York I moved to the island form my first winter in 1970. Over the next several years I worked on construction projects, became a yacht delivery captain and shuttled back and forth between this island and various Caribbean ones seasonally, followed by nearly 20 years primarily in the Caribbean sailing, boat building and house building. From 1995 to 2001 I managed an air ambulance company in Nassau, Bahamas. I moved back to Martha’s Vineyard in 2001, built a house in Aquinnah and started a new career in property management. I became an associate at Feiner Real Estate in 2009. I have been married to Kathleen Smith for 30 years and have 2 sons, Nicholas 31 and Zachary, 30.
